In a special interview with BBC, Nadeem Babar said, 'This year the price of gas will not be increased at all in the winter. By the end of this financial year i.e. by June 2021, consumers will be provided gas at the current price.
Nadeem Babar said that the present government is buying cheaper gas from the world market than the previous government. This is the reason, this year, the price of gas will not increase in the bills of consumers of natural gas.
Remember that Prime Minister Imran Khan has already said that this year there will be a shortage of gas in the country during the winter season.
According to the Economic Survey of Pakistan, the annual production of gas in Pakistan is four billion cubic feet. While its consumption is about 6 billion cubic feet.
To meet this shortfall, the country imports LNG (which is in liquid form from which gas is made again). But LNG does not completely eliminate the shortage of gas in the country.
There are currently two LNG terminals operating in Pakistan with a total capacity of 1.2 billion cubic feet.
"Did a good job, did a bad job"
But why is there a shortage of gas in Pakistan? In response to this question, Nadeem Babar says that the production of local gas in Pakistan is decreasing very fast.
As a result, local production continued to decline and there was an increase in demand. Import of LNG was started to temporarily close this gap. "
That's why the difference between supply and demand is increasing. Any energy expert could tell you five years ago that This is going to happen. I have been saying this to myself since I was not in government.
If experts knew five years ago that this was going to happen, then PTI has also been in power for two years. What steps have he taken in the meantime?
In response to this question, Nadeem Babar said, "In the meantime, we have focused on E&P (Exploration and Production Sector) (to increase local production). But the results will come out after three to four years when you are new Will start drilling, discover new reserves, it takes a few years. "
