Russia was a major threat, Britain did not recognize - Intelligence Committee report



 A UK report says that the British government has failed to recognize the Russian threat and take appropriate steps in view of that danger.

 According to the report, the government did not make any effort to investigate Russian interference in the Brexit referendum.

 The Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC), set up to investigate Russian interference in Britain, has submitted its much awaited report on Tuesday.

 This report says that the British government's attitude towards Russian interference in the Brexit referendum has been wavering.

 The Intelligence and Security Committee has said in its report that Russia's influence in Britain has now become a "normal thing" and steps need to be taken at an immediate level to counter this threat.
 The report said that the government "actively ignored" the investigation into Russian interference during the Brexit referendum.

 The committee also said that the publication of the report has been delayed without any reason.

 The Russian Foreign Ministry has dismissed this report as a fear of Russiaophobia.
 Allegations on government
 The British government has been accused of not publishing this report before the elections in December last year.

 Kevan Jones, a member of this committee, criticized the Prime Minister at the press conference held to release the report, saying there was no reason to delay the publication of the report.

 But this statement has been denied in the statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.

 The scope of the investigation of this committee included the misleading campaigns, cyber tactics and Russian people living in Britain.

 According to the report, Britain is the biggest target for Russia after USA and NATO and the main reason for this is that Britain is close to America.

 Most of the sensitive information related to this investigation was not published, because Russia could use this evidence to threaten Britain.

 The report says that Britain was "clearly a victim of the disinformation campaign" during its elections, but the issue was seen as an involuntary issue and no organization was ready to lead the case.  .

 Russian interference?

 Committee member Stewart Hozie says that no one in the government wanted to touch on the issue of Russian interference with "ten feet long" poles (ie, keeping distance).  And no one knows whether Russia intervened during the 2016 referendum to secede from the European Union, because "they did not want to know that."




 It has been said in the report that all the governments of Britain have been welcoming Russian businessmen with both hands because they make foreign investment in Britain.

 The committee has said that no government has asked those merchants of Russia who are very close to President Putin, where they have got so much money from them and continued to issue investment visas to the British government.

 The report says that there is considerable apprehension about the close relationship between Russian businessmen and some members of the House of Lords, the upper house of the UK Parliament.

 According to the report, many UK MPs have business interests in Russia, and this needs to be looked at closely because the Russian government can take advantage of them.

 A leader of the opposition Labor Party said that the government could not foresee the Russian intervention and it is important to learn a lesson from the mistakes.
